Like it says. She just filed for separation, but I don’t want that.
I want fully out of this!
How soon can I convert a separation to divorce?
I was just served today.
I don’t want delays.
Can anyone help. I’m in Colorado.
Thanks

Get yourself a good divorce attorney and countersue for divorce. Simple.

The first step is to meet with a few good attorneys in your town. They will tell you how this will go in your state, then you have them execute. Good luck.

Do this online and by downloading the forms

  • 1. Determine when you can submit your paperwork.
  • 2. Identify where you should file your paperwork.
  • 3. Fill out the correct forms and mail or hand-deliver a copy to your spouse.
  • 4. File your completed forms with the court.

Depends on the laws where you live so just get on Google and Google it for your particular state or country. Most places require a formal separation first.

No, "most" do not require a separation first, it's less than half, and Colorado does not.

A separation is an official statement that she is choosing to no longer be your wife, so you’re correct in your intent to move forward with divorce immediately.
You need to consult a good divorce attorney immediately and stop fooling around with us. Only they can guide you effectively and expeditiously in this, and you don’t have much time to waste because your wife is probably already several steps ahead of you.

Stop ****ing around and take the initiative. Take control of the situation by spending the rest of this week consulting with attorneys.

If you can, have an initial consultation with the top few divorce attorneys in your area, 1.because it’s good to get multiple opinions, and 2. because they are less likely to take your wife as a client once they’ve already had a consultation with you. Consult with the sharks, get yourself a shark, and let her hire one of the guppies.

You really need to talk to an attorney for several reasons.

First it will probably take you a couple months to get your finances separated and a financial agreement taken care of. You really should get all the bills settled, loans taken care of, property (if any sold), pension fund managers notified of changed conditions, credit cards closed and settled, etc. Then you will probably need to do some stuff with 90 day notices. The ability to get court dates for all kinds of things seems to have become a huge issue for lots of legal proceedings, but an attorney could give you an idea of the timeline.

Good luck.

Ok
I will start with the consult’s right away, and check the web.
I feel like she double crossed me with this separation crap. Divorce is only 90 days in Colorado.

Every state is different. In my state you have to be separated for 18 months.

You only have to wait 3 days to get married. I always thought if you flipped those, divorce might go down

"You must wait at least 182 days from the date your legal separation was finalized by the court (when the Decree of Legal Separation was entered) before you can file paperwork to change the legal separation to a divorce."

According to Colorafo family law
Thank you all for the replies.
I’m hoping we/she can drop or convert this in its infancy. To go through the whole process court, lawyers, money, time etc.- and in the end still be married. Nauseating to even think about.
