I'm having white rice for breakfast... like a hot cereal... where you overcook it (almost) where its soft and gooey, thick and creamy with a touch of milk and sugar and lots of butter added... YUM. Perfect with biscuits. But, I'm having toast, didnt want to go to the trouble of making biscuits. My H had never heard of this. We grew up on it. Thought everybody ate it. :smthumbup:
Anybody know what I'm talking about?

No. its only rice. cooked longer, not like fried rice or anything. no other ingredients added til you get it to the table... then add personal preference, butter,sugar,whatever, like you would in grits or oatmeal.

My brothers and I ate this all the time growing up, we put milk, cinnamon and sugar in it, sometimes butter. Now my three kids love it, they call it breakfast rice.

I do have rice for breakfast at times but not like you do. It's just white rice with a raw egg and seaweed mixed in. Super yummy!
Wow. Thanks for sharing! Would not have thought of that! But, then, we dont have seaweed here, either... :(

My friend who is from an Asian country makes a rice dish in the morning that looks like a very thick soup. It has bits of meat, chopped green onions, and salt. It's really tasty.

I hate to bring this up because I don't like "studies".. but there was one recently released about arsenic levels in certain rice. White being the lowest levels though.. apparently they're suggesting moderation until further studies are completed. May contribute to certain cancers :(

Rice contains 'worrisome' arsenic levels, says Consumer Reports - latimes.com
Yeah, that was on the news here in Texas. Something about water contamination or possible leakage from dumping.

This sounds very similar to what my Chinese friend makes. She calls her congee.
Yes, its called congee or rice porridge in Asian countries. Its usually plain cooked rice with extra water and topped with variety of ingredients. Some of the toppings I have tried are;

Scrambled egg, spring onion, fried anchovies, seaweed, tofu, cooked beans, chillies, peanuts, sweet corn, silver fish, sliced fish, cooked minsed chicen and a few more which I can't remember now.

For my kids I used to give them this once or twice a week with some minsed meat and spinach which they loved, the sweet version I make will be with sugar (brown/white/orange), butter and cashew nuts......H loves it!

Its a staple dish for chinese if I am not wrong and they traditionally eat it with steamed fish and salted vegetables(correct me if I am wrong) which I have tried too.

Hmmm...talking about this food, I feel like eating this right now with scrambled egg, anchovies and chilli...Yum!
