I know we need to document everything the other parents has done and continues to do.
Does anyone know what you do about things that happened a year ago? If we start writing it all down now will the court still take it seriously?

I think what's relevant is what's going on now and not a year ago. If these things have been going on for a year and continue, then yes, but otherwise I would stick with and document what's happening from the time of the filing to the present.

Things from a year ago are important only to the degree that they affect a child today.

The same is actually true about whatever is happening today, but your documentation from stuff a year ago will be taken at face value. If you can document actual dates and times, it will be given more weight than if you say, "Sometime around March or April...."
