Or suspicious? How would your wife react? Ever been in here?

Most of my medical providers and massage therapists now are women except the cardiologist and endocrinologist. I think the relation with the endocrinologist will be short term, so down to one male provider.

Dentist
Urologist
PA (PCP)
Medical oncologist dealing with hormones

And a second urologist who will be helping me with checking to see whether I'm having the normal amount of nocturnal erections.

I am actually very body shy and need to make sure I'm comfortable with each visit. For instance, the urologist testing my nocturnal erections may ask me to produce erections in the office to baseline the gear. I think I can handle the setup myself at home so I'm hoping she will not insist on doing it at the office. If so, I will insist on my doing the placing of the sensors while everyone else is out of the room and having a modesty blanket during the procedure. She doesn't need to see the erection as she will be able to record it on the device.

I definitely have some anxiety about that appointment.

Just in case, I asked my wife how she felt about another woman checking my erections. She says, "Okay, if that's what's needed." Probably comparing it to women dealing with male OBGYNs, but doesn't mean she is actually any more comfortable with it than I am.

Seems weird to me that they are checking that but I'm not the doctor. Definitely go the sensor route. Don't see why your wife would have any problem with you getting what needs to be done medically.

I guarantee you there is nothing sexual about a medical professional doing their job.

My wife is a RN, there was no enjoyment while putting in a catheter, having men jerk off in front of her, etc. They usually aren't even thinking about you, anything but honestly. These people have seen and handled 100's or 1,000's of ****s, yours is nothing special or memorable.

Medical necessities are just that. Your issues and concerns regarding such seem to indicate a need for mental health consultations to deal with your perceptions.

It is the patient's sense of modesty or dignity that is being violated so the staff's feelings are irrelevant.

I have worked with mental health professionals. My perceptions have been and are being assaulted. Every day I need to ask myself who I am in terms of modesty and inhibitions. Some values are absolute, though.

This is a medical thing, grown adults should be able to distinguish between this and something inappropriate.
Becoming aroused in front of anyone other than my wife is inappropriate across the board for me. I will control the situation to try to make sure it is done in a way that is comfortable for me.

Men normally have a number of nocturnal erections. The last one is often the "morning erection". These erections bring oxygenated blood into the erectile tissue to keep it healthy. Without nocturnal erections and/or wake time erections to replace them, men experience penile atrophy.

When we are put on Lupron for medical castration in treatment of cancer, we have no nocturnal erections and need to force sexual activity to lessen possibility of atrophy. I don't know whether I've recovered enough after over 2 years to be functioning normally. Not interested in experiencing penile atrophy.

You know it's too bad they can't give you some sensors to put on once you're at home in a comfortable environment, isn't it?

And any good medical professional will do everything they can do make the patient feel more comfortable. They shouldn't feel violated.

Since it's not sexual, there is no reason for a spouse to have a problem with it.

I think they should be able to. I don't know this office's routine, though. They may not trust that I can do a baseline on my own. I'm sure I can and will try to insist on taking it home and doing it on my own.

Some do better than others. Some have a routine and aren't willing to deviate. Some really don't give a damn and treat patients like objects. I've had to have a conversation with one supervisor about her team being really lame.

Totally get this and I’m sorry you have to go through this testing. I would probably find it impossible to do this kind of test.

I hope as others suggested you can find a way to do the tests at home.

Hoping for your complete recovery!

i get that but I thought you were Questioning whether or not your wife was really okay with it? Not yourself?.. it’s admirable you feel that way, yet it isn’t out of anything but trying to keep yourself healthy for your wife.

Most of my doctors have been men, and who cares?

More recently I've had female OBGYN's which is nice but both of my sons both had male OB's (I was military so you see whoever is available) and I got poked and prodded all kinds of ways in my childbearing region. A man delivered my older son (younger son had a woman). That was their job and they wanted to do it properly.

I just want good doctors that take care of me. That should be your only concern.

I went the doctors once for ED and got a young woman. She wanted to do tests on my organ but I said no thanks and went. Once I had another lady doctor checking me who checked with a machine to see if my bladder was empty then used a rubber glove to poke her finger up you know what. I wasn't thinking anything sexual but I had fantasies later on making it sexual and I had to get my wife to do stuff to me to eradicate the fantasies. The doctor was doing her job but things can happen in one's mind if you have a strong imagination.
