This seemed like the most appropriate section to post this thread, sorry if it is not.

I need advice on my marriage proposal idea!

I'm planning on proposing to my soul mate in the very near future. We have discussed marriage, so the question of "will she say yes" or not is no longer a question.

So, here's the back story:

There is a mountain in my home state, where we live, that you can go searching/digging for crystals. The way you do it is by hiking around, high and low, for holes in the rock of varying sizes/depth, and scoop out the dirt with a long skinny "spoon" in hopes of scooping out a few crystals. This is one of my favorite places on earth. I shared it with her since her and I have very similar interests and she was just as in love with the hunt and location as I am. Although I have only been able to take her there with me once, it has become a pretty special place for us, being that I introduced her to this thing that I love, and she loved it just as much, and wants to go back badly.

Although there are a lot of really good proposal ideas on the internet, I wanted to do something completely unique, and this is what I came up with:

We will drive to the mountain, park the car, gear up, and hike up to the spot where I usually go, and where I took her before. We will scout around for a minute for a good area with a few promising holes to dig in. I will advise her to dig in a hole in one area, as I slowly make my way away from her, out of view, to another area close by, and find a hole big and deep enough to fit the ring in (encased in some sort of small container). Then Ill come over to her, tell her that I found a really promising hole, and have her dig in it, as I find a spot close by, and wait for her to pull the ring out, and as soon as she realizes what it is, get down on one knee and ask for her hand in marriage.

What do you think? Is this a stupid/cheesy idea? I tend to over think, and get insecure with my creativity. She has mentioned that she has always liked the idea of finding the ring, rather than the traditional method of pulling it out of my pocket and getting down on one knee. I guess I should mention that the kind of stone she wants in her engagement ring is a raw stone, so it is kind of relevant to the activity and location.

Please help! I don't really have anyone else to give me their unbiased opinion.

Thank you!

The only bad proposals are the ones where the person doesn't consider the preferences of the other partner. For instance, I would have HATED if my husband proposed to me in public (he knew that and made sure to pick a private place with no one around).

You thought about what she might like, bought her the ring that sounds perfect for her, and its a wonderful surprise. Sounds lovely to me...I think she'll be extremely happy.

Just make sure no one gets to the hole before you do! (That sounds really wrong...sorry).

Do it! It's NOT stupid or cheesy, don't even worry about that.

It's a fantastic idea, and she gets to find the ring which is what she wants, and the location and hobby is important to you both.

Go for it! It's an awesome idea. :)
Thanks for the input!

Its so hard to trust myself with my own ideas! haha. Thank you!

Its so big, until its done, then it seems like such a small step... but first step.

Just my experience...

Good luck brah!

I think this sounds awesome :).

The ONLY negative I see, and you know her and I don't, is that it COULD be a little predictable if she's expecting a proposal. I mean, if she's totally shocked it's an amazing idea. But try really, really hard to throw her off if you think she has any idea! I totally knew my proposal with my ex was coming and it kinda lost its magic!

I actually was just going over this in my head. Its just the whole leading up to the actual event that's so nerve racking, I know when its all done I'll look back and wonder why I stressed over it so much.

I was worried about this as well. I really dont think that she would expect it, she has been talking about how much she wants to go back, and she knows I do as well. And I havent been letting on too much about how much I've been thinking about my proposal idea. I am also very good about hiding my intentions, so im not too worried about her anticipating it. At least I think im not too worried. Haha.

Hahaha, the hole time (pun intended) I was writing the post I was wondering how many people would notice how often I used the word "hole" and how most of it could be taken as innuendo. I'm glad someone has similar humor.

I did put a lot of thought into making sure most everything about the idea was thoughtful and personal. Thank you for your input!

OK good. Just make sure you don't take her out for a fancier-than-usual meal before-hand or put any extra effort into your appearance, etc. Don't shave, wear hiking attire, etc. :) (Also, try to sneak some champagne ;). )

And, finally, REPORT BACK! :)

Oh yes, I was planning on making the day leading up to the proposal as mundane as possible so as to not arouse suspicion. And I will definitely report back with the (hopefully) good news!

True, but you got this bro.! I agree with the others when you make it/things different she could see it coming, but since she also likes the dig site, you're golden. Just don't change plans and fly to Brazil to dig Tourmaline (she might get suspicious) :grin2: .
