This might surprise you but there are cultures around the world where this kind of behavior is not new. Well, now that I think about it, it's happening here in the U.S. as well. Before the internet you were aware of some cultural behaviors through books or magazines but now it's very easily available to us. And they can be shocking to other cultures.

Latin America is full of body awareness and sexual behaviors. Some, I believe, are good and some are not. Nudity can be part of our cultural tradition. You can see half naked bodies dancing at "Rio's Carnaval" in Brazil, and no one bats an eye.

Dancing is part of our culture. Almost everyone in latin America knows how to dance salsa and merengue and it's not a dirty dance like it's shown here in America.

I remember getting together with my friends and trying to learn dance moves to the early reggaeton music, the twerking and boob shaking. Of course our grandparents were horrified watching us dance, lol! But that was the thing, and still is the thing for younger generations. Now I'm in my 40's and I can't go down twerking to the tune of a song anymore, Lol!

I don't agree with the culture of sexualizing younger kids. Not at all. But younger kids are twerking, whether you want to believe it or not. Don't close your eyes to the realities of younger generations. We have to learn from them as well and understand how they see the world. I understand these behaviors are shocking here because sexual education is kinda like a taboo here, where in other parts of the world it's not. It's easier to talk about sexual behaviors when you give the kids information about their own sexuality. We grow up understanding our bodies and expressing our sexuality. That's part of our personal exploration, something that I'm aware it's happening to my own kids, and something that I talk about very openly with them, the same way my own mother did with me.

I went through the stage of "dirty dancing" too. Not so much like the movie but my friends did, my cousins did, and we are not depraved adults. We are aware it was a developmental stage and we are over that. Our kids might go through the same thing, who knows.

Now, you might be horrified by this movie but other countries are horrified knowing how much pot American kids smoke. Or how much bullying there's at American schools. Or how many kids bring guns and weapons to school. I mean my family thinks I'm sending my kids to the wild wild west when they find out my kids go to public schools. And for America all that is fine, no big deal. That's part of your culture and it's not shocking to you, but it's very shocking to other cultures, so much that they think Americans are depraved. Again, it's a cultural difference and it could be hard to understand.

I think this movie is an eye opener to the culture our kids are living in now a days. You'd better learn from it and navigate it with your own kids or they are going to find someone else who might not have their best interest at heart, and would end up hurting them.
I think every parent should watch this movie and learn from it.

I got rid of Netflix a couple years ago due to a steady increase in the vileness of their product.

I will be praying for their active destruction now.

I loathe anyone that would harm or exploit children and I'm surprised this show doesn't violate some child pornography laws.

Yes, evil hollywood dragging us down. No comment on the massive amount of sexualization pushed on to children from their own parents, or addressing the reason the movie was made was because these dance teams exist.

Wow, and I thought the beauty pageants with the little girls with the fake teeth and all the makeup was bad. That video of the 8 year olds omg! What’s even worse is that you see all the people in the audience clapping like it’s normal. Like they’re watching 25 year olds doing this, which would still be gross but they’re of age to do what they want. The song is absolutely disgusting too. “Girls we run this mother**cker” 8 year olds! What are the parents (or anybody else) thinking that makes this ok?

One competition company had over 50,000 competitors in a year: Our Story « Showstopper

It is not just a couple bad parents. Competitive dance is a big deal, and that doesn't even include competitive cheer, or cheer leading in general.
Thats in the usa, its not supported much in most other countries. I have never understood those pageants or the cheer leading. I woould never ever have entered my daughters in things like that.

The movie is from France. The UK has youth competitive dance teams. Which countries think this is an abomination?

Never said any countries said it was an abomination, just that things like beauty pageants, cheerleading and these types of dance groups are prolific in the USA. Tried watahing dance mums once, couldnt bear it.

Ok, you didn't say abomination, but you said "not supported much", yet the movie is from France, and there are youth competitive dance teams all over Europe. It is just as supported anywhere else as in America. They have youth beauty pageants as well.

I want to be clear about something: I am not saying the movie is ok, but I do have an issue with how we place these problems on 'hollywood' or 'powerful elites' that are all about diddling kids. The reality is that children are raped and trafficked by people they know, the number of Epstien's in the world make up a tiny fraction of the problem. The more we make this issue about powerful people doing things to manipulate and spread an agenda to the world, the less we pay attention to the actual problem going on all over the world.

"FACT: A majority of the time, victims are trafficked by someone they know, such as a friend, family member or romantic partner."

No it isn't, no it isn't and yes it is shocking. Some Americans are depraved. And, still, those south of the border want to come North.
